Welcome to GreenCardTracker — Plain-English Green Card Coverage Starts Today

We're launching GreenCardTracker to translate USCIS and State Department guidance into plain English, with free tools and continuous updates.

April 11, 2026

We’re launching GreenCardTracker to do one thing: translate the U.S. green card process into plain English.

Every year, millions of people start a green card application without knowing the difference between an I-130 and an I-140, what a priority date actually controls, or whether they qualify for the DV Lottery. Official USCIS pages answer most questions — eventually — but they’re written for lawyers and they don’t explain why.

We’re going to fix that. Here’s what we’re starting with.

Four pillar guides

  • Family-Based Green Card — Every category, every cost, every common pitfall.
  • Asylum — The one-year deadline, work permit timeline, and path from grant to green card.
  • Diversity Visa Lottery — Eligibility, scams to avoid, what happens if you win.
  • EB-2 NIW — How the three Dhanasar prongs really work, and why this is the most powerful self-petition path.

Free tools

Our DV Lottery Eligibility Checker is live today. Processing time lookups, priority date trackers, and an EB-2 NIW self-assessment are coming next.

What we’ll publish

  • Visa Bulletin updates monthly
  • USCIS policy changes within 48 hours
  • Court rulings and AAO decisions that affect green card cases
  • Plain-English breakdowns of the forms, fees, and procedures that confuse applicants

We are not a law firm. We tell you when you need one, and where to find one. Read our editorial policy for how we work.

Welcome aboard.
